Graduate Student Association (APPS)
Association of Plant Pathology Scholars
The Association of Plant Pathology Scholars (APPS) is the UK Department of Plant Pathology's organization of graduate students, postdocs, and other scholars. This group was established in 2003 to voice graduate student opinions and to keep students informed of new departmental policies; membership has since expanded to include postdocs and visiting scholars.
APPS meets regularly to update graduate students and others on upcoming university, college, and departmental policy changes that directly affect them. To voice graduate student and postdoc opinions and concerns, APPS also chooses representatives to attend every faculty meeting.
The Association plans social and enrichment programs, such as departmental picnics and the graduate student retreat. APPS also sponsors the annual Extension seminar presented by the department's Extension specialists.
In 2019, APPS won the University of Kentucky Lead Blue Civic Engagement 2019 Award. This award honors the work and achievement of associations that have greatly contributed to the inclusion and development of their members, as well as to society, through networking and outreach activities.
